Citing Sources in Speeches Learning Module

This module was developed to provide students with additional information about how to cite their sources orally in their speeches. Since there aren’t many good resources that explain exactly what information is needed in an oral citation, this module is organized around a single guiding principle: “The audience should be able to locate the source of your information with only the information contained in your oral citation.” With this principle as a guide, the learning module gives the oral citation requirements, at least three examples of how the oral citation might be stated, and also provides additional tips for citing that type of resource orally. Narration over the slides provides additional guidance about orally citing sources. These guidelines were developed using the commonly accepted but non-codified standards employed in collegiate competitive speech competition. The supplementary Oral Citation Guidelines document provides students with a printable guide for oral citation requirements.
